without further ado, here’s the finished mix of “How Does it Feel?” As usual, just click on the title and you’ll have the option to play the mp3 from the blog or download to your computer. as always, we’d like to know your thoughts!
live show coming
we’ve booked our first live show since 2007, so mark those calendars!
8/21 at Mars Bar for the International Pop Overthrow Festival. If you’re in the Seattle area, this will be a rare chance to hear some of the new songs live, alongside songs from Sunny Days Ahead which we’ve never performed live before. After this show we’ll be going back into hibernation as a live band, so we hope to see you there! More details as we get closer . . .
How Does it Feel?
song # 5 now has the working title “How Does It Feel?” check out an updated demo below:
since the first demo I’ve added vocals and lyrics, the chorus part has a new chord progression and the song has been arranged a little more. it’s still very bare – I think there’s still a fair bit of work to be done.
song 5 – first demo
here’s the first demo of song # 5 – just some bass, drums and guitar at this stage. hopefully some vocals will materialize over the weekend. any ideas or comments? let us know . . .
and so – finally – here is song # 4, Stand and Deliver -
(click above to access streaming audio and download link)
this is the first song on the record to feature SSA guitarist David Bos and – as usual – his guitar work elevated the song to another level.
download it, share it, let us know what you think of it!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of recording some amazing guitar parts for this song by David Bos – safe to say you’ll notice some major improvements in the next and hopefully final mix of Stand and Deliver, which will hopefully appear within a day or two.
stand and deliver
song # 4 is proving to be a difficult one to finish off. we now have lyrics and a working title and something approaching a finished arrangement. I’m still not completely happy with the lyrics but I’ll just let this one sit for a day or two and see if I get any better ideas. If YOU have any ideas let’s hear ‘em!
song # 4 progress
here’s a new rough mix of song # 4:
as you can see no title yet. no vocals yet either but musically it’s starting to take shape. I’m thinking this is more of a “kitchen sink” mix where everything’s on the table – eventually I’ll probably try and condense it a little but that’ll be a lot easier once the vocals are in place. as always, I welcome your comments and ideas!
slow progress
I’ve been laid low with a cold this week so not much progress to report on song # 4 – hopefully I’ll be able to post some updates this weekend. I’ve added a guitar and mellotron overdub but it’s still basically the same as the initial demo below.
I also wanted to clarify what I meant when I talked about the “indifference to climate change” theme I’m using to try and tie these songs together, lest anyone fear things were going to get a bit preachy. If you take a listen to songs like Get It Together, Draw the Line or You Don’t Care from the Sunny Days Ahead record, those songs all have an element of social comment without it being too overt. That’s the sort of thing I’m shooting for in terms of lyrical content – something with a message that’s still ambiguous enough that it can be interpreted in a variety of ways.
